Account security
The importance of a secure email inbox is often underestimated.
In fact, there are several reasons why your email account is one of your most important accounts on the internet and why you should secure it
with a strong password and two-factor authentication (2FA), for example:
Why should I secure my email account?
-
Privacy protection:
An email inbox usually contains confidential information such as personal and business messages and contact details.
-
Prevention of identity theft:
Potential attackers who have direct access to your email address can also use it to impersonate you.
The sensitive information you have stored in your email inbox, such as your address,
date of birth or even contracts and financial information, can help them do this or reveal further targets.
-
Access to other services:
Many online services (such as social media, bank accounts, cloud storage, etc.) are linked to your email address.
An attacker who has control over your email account can therefore easily reset passwords for your other accounts
and access them.
-
Protection against spam and abuse:
Hacked email accounts are often used to send spam messages and malware.
The direct contacts of the respective mailbox are particularly targeted. And while spam messages are just a nuisance,
malware attacks on friends, acquaintances and business partners originating from your email address
can become a real problem.
